Transportation from Mexico City to San Miguel


There are two primary ways to get from Mexico City to San Miguel de Allende: by bus or in a private vehicle. Both modes of travel take about four to five hours, depending on traffic. The distance between the two cities is 270 km (167 mi).


Going by bus (the most affordable)


Taking a shared air-conditioned bus is the most affordable way to travel from Mexico City to San Miguel de Allende. They depart from the Central de Autobuses del Norte (North Bus Station) and arrive at San Miguel de Allende Bus Station. Tickets cannot be changed or canceled after purchase.


Bus prices start at $42, with multiple departures per day. One 20 kg (44 lbs) bag is allowed per passenger, as well as a carry-on.


Going by car (the quickest)


If you take a private car, you can arrange a pick-up with a driver at the Mexico City Airport any time during the day. Private cars can fit up to three people and will drop you off at any San Miguel de Allende hotel. All vehicles include A/C and toilet stops, and prices start at $462 per vehicle.

When is the best time to visit San Miguel de Allende?


Want to experience a European summer in Mexico? Visit between November and April. It's the most beautiful time to see the city, with temperatures hanging around the mid-70s°F and 80s°F (20s°C). 


Try to avoid the Christmas and Easter holiday seasons, as this is when there are more crowds than usual. Early November, January, and February are good months to visit.


If you want to plan a summer trip, you won't deal with as many tourists. However, it is quite hot and extremely rainy between June and October, so keep that in mind.


Where to visit after San Miguel de Allende? 


A trip from San Miguel de Allende to Guadalajara should be next on your bucket list. Separated by 347 km (216 miles), a bus can transfer you over, the total trip taking about five to six hours.
