Cebu to Moalboal, Cebu

Moalboal is one of the best places to base yourself while exploring the southern portion of the province of Cebu. It’s the perfect town to stay in because you can enjoy many adventurous activities within a short motorbike ride away.

One of the best things you can do in all of Cebu province is explore the beautiful waterfalls. Moalboal is located centrally to several of the most beautiful falls in all of the Philippines. Kawasan Falls is probably the most famous waterfall in the region, and for good reason. But don’t let them outshine Aguinid Falls, Inambakan Falls, and Binalayan Falls (the Hidden Falls) – they are total gems.

Other adventurous activities on Cebu Island near Moalboal are hiking, rock climbing and cliff jumping. Some of the best hikes are Osmena Peak and Casino Peak. Osmena Peak is a great place to hike at sunrise to watch the sunrise over the hills. And Casino Peak has the best views in the entire region. Just note that it is a two-hour drive from the center of Moalboal.

If trekking through the jungle to see waterfalls or hiking around the island isn’t for you, there are plenty of beaches for you to relax on. Panagsama Beach is right near the center of Moalboal, and if you're lucky, you’ll be able to swim with sea turtles right off the shore. Find the spot on the ocean floor that is covered in seagrass – turtles flock there.

White Beach is another crowd favorite. It has brilliant cerulean waters surrounded by white powdery sand, perfect for relaxing. A few great bars and restaurants dotted around the beach offer tasty drinks and delicious local food.

As you can see, there are plenty of activities to keep you busy during your time in Moalboal.

How to get from Cebu to Moalboal

You can choose to take public or private transportation when going from Cebu City to Moalboal.

There is a Cebu to Moalboal bus operated by the company Ceres Liner. Public transportation is safe and reliable, but private transfers are more flexible, comfortable, and faster.

Private transportation options include a private minivan or car transfers.

Each option has its pros and cons, but the choice inevitably lies with you. Checking the Cebu to Moalboal bus schedule and comparing prices is the best place to start when making your decision.

Bus

The best option for budget travelers is the Cebu City to Moalboal bus. It’s cheap and easy, and the fare starts at just $6 – you can’t beat that.

Ceres Liner operates this bus route, and the journey takes approximately three hours. The bus is not direct – it makes a few stops along the way.

The bus goes from the South Bus Terminal in Cebu to Moalboal. You will disembark at the cruise terminal, which doubles as the bus station.

The coach itself is bright green and has AC on board. This is a luxury, as most other forms of public transportation in the region do not. One of the easiest ways to check you have gotten on the right bus is to check if it has air conditioning. The seat formation on this bus is all singles. So, you won’t be forced to sit next to a stranger.

The Ceres bus schedule from Cebu to Moalboal has departures every two hours between 3 am and 7pm every day.

A few important things to note are that you cannot cancel or change your ticket with Ceres once you have booked.

You also need to print your voucher so that you can exchange it for an actual bus ticket. It’s a must to show your voucher. Printing it makes the process much smoother, especially if you get a grumpy ticket agent who does not want to accept the voucher on your phone. This takes a bit of time, so arrive about 30 minutes early to ensure you are not late.

Minivan

Private transportation may be a better option for you if you are traveling during peak season or with a group.

A minivan is a great option and can hold up to twelve people. In addition, they offer travelers personal pick up from their hotel or the airport in Cebu and drop off anywhere they like in Moalboal.

Traveling by minivan takes less time than the bus because you won’t have to make additional stops and wait for passengers to board. You can also set your own schedule and stop for snacks and the bathroom whenever you like.

Unfortunately, you have to book the entire minivan, regardless of how many people travel. The good news is that you have more space to spread out and relax. The bad news, though, is that it is much more expensive.

There are three companies to choose from when booking a minivan: MYE Travel and Tours, Fermont Transport, and My Cebu Guide.

All three companies offer similar amenities. However, there are a few significant differences you should be aware of.

Fermont Transport offers the cheapest minivan service, with cars starting at $110 per trip. Unfortunately, they’ll only pick up passengers at the airport. So, if you’re already staying in a hotel, you will have to make your way back to the airport to catch your ride.

They do allow passengers to change or cancel their booking up to 24 hours in advance. This is a great feature for those travelers whose plans are constantly changing.

My Cebu Guide costs about $165. Their minivan only holds four to nine people. And they only do transfers from Cebu airport to Moalboal. You can cancel or change your booking up to seven days in advance.

MYE Travel and Tours is the most expensive, with minivan transfers costing $220. Unfortunately, you are unable to cancel or change your trip once you have booked. However, you can arrange door-to-door transfers, saving you time and money if you are staying in Cebu and not traveling directly from the airport.

Car

The final way to get to Moalboal is by car. Private transfers are more reliable than taxis, and they cost about the same.

Hiring a private car to get from Cebu City to Moalboal is a great way to avoid crowded buses. It is also the fastest way to travel between cities. If you hit traffic right and don’t stop for the bathroom, you can make it to Moalboal in under two hours.

The downside to hiring a car is that it only fits three people, and it’s an expensive option.

The same three companies, Fermont, My Cebu Guide, and MYE Travel, offer private car services in addition to minivans. And the Cebu to Moalboal fare ranges from $80 to $135 per car.

In the end, whichever choice you make when booking from Cebu to Moalboal, you are bound to enjoy your time once you get there.
