How to get from Ao Nang to Krabi

Ao Nang to Krabi (airport) is a short and simple journey of 17km (10.5 miles). You can can get a private car which will pick you up wherever you like in Ao Nang, and get you to Krabi airport in about 30 minutes, or alternatively you can book a seat in a minivan, which leaves from Klong Jirad Pier and will get you to the airport in about an hour.

The car will be a private car, and is the quicker option, so if time is of the essence or you’re traveling with a few people this is a good option for you. The minivan has 7 departure times, is still quite fast, and is ideal if you’re on a budget.

Ao Nang is a beautiful beach resort town in the province of Krabi, and is a major hub for travelers in search of sea, sunshine, and adventure. As you would expect of a resort towns it’s busy the high-season and very quiet during the low-season (more on that later), and is very tourist friendly. So it’s ideal if you’re looking for a beach holiday, but if you’re looking for the “real” Thailand, you might find it a little too touristy.

You can enjoy the pristine beaches, the oh-so-turquoise Andaman Sea during the day, and explore the vibrant nightlife and restaurants in the evening. Ao Nang is a laid-back town, with tonnes to do. Once you’ve had your fill of beach time, you can go shopping, island hopping (the beautiful island of Koh Poda is just 25 minutes away by boat) or even go ziplining to get your adrenaline and heart-rate pumping!

Once you’ve enjoyed all that Ao Nang has to offer, this is the route you will take to catch your next flight and continue your travels.

What to see when traveling from Ao Nang to Krabi

The short journey from Ao Nang to Krabi won’t be the most scenic of your life, but you will be able to watch motorways turn into smaller roads surrounded by greenery as you look out of the window.

You’ll also be able to see daily life in all its glory; locals zipping around on scooters, road-side fruit stalls, local food markets. Ideal for people watching! Thailand is also a feast for the eyes, with so much going on, so do enjoy the slice of daily life as you travel.

What is the best time of year to visit Ao Nang?

Ao Nang is blessed with good weather pretty much all year round, with yearly average temperatures of 24-32 degrees Celsius (75 to 89 degrees Fahrenheit).

The high season in Ao Nang is November - March. The weather is a wonderful 28 degrees Celsius (82 degrees Fahrenheit), perfect for relaxing on the beach, exploring the town, island hopping, and adventuring.

Whilst the weather is perfect, expect Ao Nang to be busier and for accommodation to be more expensive during the high season, especially over the Christmas holidays. Ao Nang is a resort town, and as such attracts both travelers and foreign holiday makers, looking to get a bit of winter sun and escape the cold.

The hottest time in Ao Nang is from April to May, with the temperature regularly hitting 36 degrees Celsius (95 degrees Fahrenheit). There are rain showers as well, which provide a welcome break from the heat, and don’t last too long, and it’s less busy during this period.

June, July, and August are also a good time to visit if you want to avoid the crowds. There will be the odd rain shower, and daily temperatures of  20-33 degrees Celsius (70-90 degrees Fahrenheit). Expect everything to be quieter though. If you’re looking to go out and enjoy the nightlife this isn’t the best time to visit, as it’s much quieter than during the high season when everything is in full swing.

The wettest months are September and October, so if you’re planning on spending a lot of time at the beach (which you probably are) best to avoid these months.

What is the best time of year to visit Ao Nang?

As Ao Nang is in the Krabi province the weather is exactly the same! The difference being that whilst Ao Nang is a resort town, which is very quiet in the low season, Krabi (both the province in general and Krabi Town) have different things to offer throughout the year.

The high season in Krabi, much like Ao Nang, is November - March. With an average temperature of 28 degrees Celsius (82 degrees Fahrenheit), you can make the most of the many beautiful beaches that Krabi has to offer, check out nearby islands including Koh Poda, and Koh Rok, as well as shopping in the market.

April and May are the hottest months, with 36 degrees Celsius (95 degrees Fahrenheit) being a normal daily temperature. Bring your suncream, hit the beach, and cool off in the beautiful Andaman Sea!

June, July, and August are great months to visit if you want to avoid the crowds, and don’t mind the odd rain shower. Most places are still open, and it’s much less crowded than during the high season. In fact, this is often the locals’ favourite time, with temperatures ranging from 20-33 degrees Celsius (70-90 degrees Fahrenheit) and everything is a little bit cheaper at this time too, so you could get some good deals during this time!

Krabi Town is bigger than Ao Nang, so whilst Ao Nang will be quiet during this time, expect Krabi Town to have more life, with pretty much everything still being open during the lower season. Ideal if you’re flexible in terms of the times you can travel, and aren’t working around school holidays, for example.

September and October are the wettest months, so we wouldn’t recommend arriving in the middle of the rainy season, as you won’t be able to enjoy the beautiful outdoors, there’s a reason “rainbathing” hasn’t caught on!
