Much of Battambang’s attractions are relics of the Khmer empire, which ruled between the 11th and 15th centuries. Much of the landscape has changed, though, as the Khmer Rouge provided it’s own punch to the northwestern region. The Kamping Puoy Lake was not always as peaceful as it is now: a beautiful, lotus filled reservoir, booming with life. In accordance with Cambodia’s majority being Buddhist, Battambang is filled with extravagant temples. Many structures have impecabble, golden detailing and tales scribed on the ziggurat-shaped roofs. After French colonialization in the past century, Battambang has grown to be a vibrant and modern city, which you can explore by eating through the city’s many cafes.
