About the ride from Mykonos to Santorini

Greece is one of the most sought out seaside jewels in Europe. With luxurious destinations such as Mykonos and Santorini, the country is seeing more and more visitors every year. The two party islands are the go-to place for everyone who wants to experience the magic of the country in style.
When traveling the 118 kilometer (73 mile) distance between Mykonos and Santorini, you have three transportation options to choose from:

  • Hopping on a high-speed ferry that takes you to Santorini in less than 2 hours
  • Booking a quick 35-minute flight
  • Flying to Santorini on a private helicopter ride

All three options are a great choice, and the decision is up to you, your budget, and your preferences. Ferries are very popular, but they can get crowded, so it’s recommended to book a ticket and show up at the port in advance.

Flights are a great choice for those who tend to get seasick and don’t want to make the journey on the water. And, of course, helicopter rides are the most expensive option. If your budget allows, and you’re looking for a unique way to experience the journey, consider booking a ride far in advance.

What to see when traveling from Mykonos to Santorini

What you’ll be able to see on your trip from Mykonos to Santorini depends on the type of transportation you chose. No matter which one it is, you’re in for a scenic ride.
Travelers who are making the journey on a ferry will be rewarded with the never-ending sights of the blue waters of the Aegean Sea. The ferry will be gliding through the sun-blazed waters and passing next to several other Greek islands.
The ferry will take you between the islands of Paros and Naxos, and then between Ios and Sikinos. Keep your eyes open and your camera ready, as these hidden gems are absolutely gorgeous.
If you’re hopping on a plane, you’ll have an aerial view of the Aegean Sea and the Cyclades islands. Travelers who are lucky enough to grab a window seat will have around 35 minutes to enjoy the blue views before the plane finally lands.

Those who booked a helicopter ride are in for the adventure of a lifetime! The helicopter also gives an aerial view, but it flies a bit lower than the plane itself and has much larger windows.

You’ll fly above the blue seas and several magnificent islands. The helicopter rides are very popular because of the experience you’re able to have while flying. Pilots will also try to fly over some of the most beautiful spots that are on the route, which you can’t really experience on a plane ride.
