About the ride from Amalfi to Capri

The Amalfi coast is, undoubtedly, one of the most beautiful places in Italy. Even though you might want to stay here forever, there are so many more great spots nearby that it would be a shame that you don’t visit them. One of them is the scenic island of Capri.

When traveling the 31 kilometer (19 mile) distance between Amalfi and Capri, you have only one option to make the trek:

  • Hopping on a speedy ferry that will get you from the Amalfi coast to Capri in just one hour

All ferries have both outdoor and indoor seating, and you’ll be able to enjoy some amazing views as you glide through the waters of the Tyrrhenian Sea.

What to see when traveling from Amalfi to Capri

Hop on a ferry between Amalfi and Capri, and your 1 hour journey will turn into a scenic ride through the waters of the Tyrrhenian Sea. The wind in your hair, the sun blazing across the blue waters, and the coastal communities of southern Italy will make you wish the ride lasted for just a bit longer.

Even though you can stay in Capri for a longer period of time, the island is a popular one day destination from the Amalfi coast. When visiting the island, the most popular sight to see is the Blue Grotto, which is a sea cave where the water boasts a clear, aquamarine blue color. The light enters the cave in such a way that it creates the optical illusion which makes you think that there are lights coming from the deep water itself. When getting to Capri, the ferry will drop you off at a port in Marina Grande. From here, you can take a short boat trip to the Blue Grotto.

Once you get off the boat, you can take a short walk to the Giardini di Augusto. Once you enter the gardens, you’ll walk up a small flight of stairs and be rewarded with some of the most magnificent views you’ll ever see!

Right next to the Giardini di Augusto, you’ll find Via Krupp, the narrow path built into a cliff that takes you to the bay of the pale blue sea. This is one of the most photographed spots on Capri Island.

Next to the Blue Grotto, there’s one more sight that is the symbol of Capri, and that’s Faraglioni rocks. These rocks rise out of the blue sea waters and have been formed into huge rock formations by the waves that crash onto them.

If you’re looking for the best views on the island, you should get to the island’s highest point, Monte Solaro, a mountain that towers over Marina Grande. The trail starts at Anacapri, and you can reach the top after just 2 hours of walking. The hike is relatively easy, but there are a few points where there’s a 30 and 45 percent incline. There’s also a chairlift to the summit from Anacapri, which you can take if you’re not a fan of hiking.

Even though the island’s natural sights are out-of-this-world beautiful, there are other things that draw visitors to Capri, and one of them is Via Camerelle, a designer shopping district. This calm Capri street has the highest concentration of luxury fashion brands (probably) in all of Italy!

There are many more beautiful sights to see around the island and fun things to do. After a day spent exploring the gems of Capri, take a stroll down the Piazza Umberto I in Capri Town, and grab a tasty Italian coffee, or a delicious dinner.
