About the ride from Batangas to Puerto Galera

After experiencing the beauty of Batangas, in the south of Luzon, head across the water of the Isle Verde Passage to Puerto Galera. This port is at the northwest corner of Oriental Mindoro, the third-largest Philippine island.

Known for being one of the most beautiful bays in the world, Puerto Galera is the place for snorkeling, diving and water sports. In 1977, it was nominated as a natural reserve in UNESCO's Man and Biosphere Program. This program aims to protect natural resources while sustaining the livelihoods within the community.

The ride from Batangas is effortless. It's about 31 miles (50 km) and only requires a forty-five-minute ferry ride.

Five fascinating things to do in Puerto Galera

Here are some great things to see while in Puerto Galera:

  1. See under the sea. Puerto Galera has some of the best snorkeling and diving in the area. Enjoy the colorful creatures and the world under the ocean's surface.

Support the local community by hiring local fishermen to take you to the incredible beauty of Coral Garden, San Antonio Island's Underwater Cave, and the Giant Clams dive site.

You don't have to go far from shore to see some fascinating wonders.

  1. Play hard… on the water. Sometimes, you just need some play time, right? See the area's beauty while parasailing, or try water skiing and jet skiing. Other fun possibilities include banana boating, tubing or wakeboarding. Try it all and discover your favorite!

  2. Leave the sea and explore inland. At the Muelle Cultural Heritage Park, you can see a life-sized replica of a Spanish galleon. Puerto Galera was where Spanish sailors, Chinese merchants and pirates would hide out to escape brutal storms on the sea.

The safe harbor became an important trading post. Imagine the past as you walk along the boardwalk.

  1. Visit the beautiful Tamaraw Falls and take a dip in its clean, refreshing water. This 423 ft (128 m) waterfall is a series of smaller falls that join into a large one. The waterfall is easily accessible from the road and requires no substantial hike. At the base, there are pools where you can swim. While there, enjoy a picnic or some food from local vendors.

  2. Party it up at White Beach. Well known for its powdery white sand, this beach is where the action is. Enjoy live music, bars, and local fire dancers. Additionally, it is a great beach for lounging, swimming and enjoying water sports, which is why it is often crowded during the high season.
