Fersa -Tickets and online bookings

Although the speedboat departed half an hour late, we still arrived in Tortuguero on time. Due to the heavy rains, the water level was very high, allowing the boat to travel at high speed. On the outward journey, we were lucky that it wasn't raining, so the side canopy was up. It was a fantastic trip. We had plenty of room. Our luggage was temporarily but securely stowed on the front seats. Smaller backpacks are highly recommended instead of large suitcases.

Ferry was excellent. However the Bookaway system is absolutely not fit for purpose. I had to make 6 or 7 separate booking attempts to find a ferry that was not full, but on each occasion the Bookaway system only checks availability AFTER payment is taken. So 6 payments on my credit card and then 6 pending refunds that will take some time. But always an immediate message saying the booking had failed and there was an error. At the same time the credit card had been charged. I only know this as the credit card I was using sends me a message each time a charge is applied to the card. Bookaway were totally disingenuous by showing availability and even allowing selection of seats before asking for payment but then only checking (and presumably then failing on the booking) AFTER payment taken. Will never use them again.
