Now that you’re ready to dive straight into the chaos check out the tips below to plan the route to get you to Bangkok.

About the ride from Sukhothai to Bangkok

The distance from Sukhothai to Bangkok is about 415 km (~258 miles). You’ll be traveling from the center of the country south to reach the capital.

How to get from Sukhothai to Bangkok

If saving money on transportation is your number one goal, taking the bus may be the best way to Bangkok.

However, if you’re looking to save time rather than money, a flight may work better with your schedule. Sukhothai does have an airport, and there are regular direct flights between the two cities.

A train goes directly from Phitsanulok, about 60 km from Sukhothai. Or you could hire a private car or minivan to drive you from Sukhothai to Bangkok if the other options aren’t appealing to you.

Bus

One of the best ways to travel from Sukhothai to Bangkok is by bus. There are a few options that range in price from about US$13-23 per person. When booking, you can choose an express bus, an economy bus, or a tourist bus.

The express bus starts at US$13 per ticket and takes approximately eight hours.

The Transport Co. operates this route and has comfortable buses that offer their passengers reclining seats, AC, and toilets on board. The express bus will also give you a meal and stop for a chance to stretch your legs. Now that’s service!

Two companies offer economy tickets for this bus route, which generally takes six and a half to seven hours. Phitsanulok Yarnyon will provide you with a lot of different amenities such as TVs, AC, toilets, and reclining seats on board. They also allow you to bring up to 20 kgs of checked luggage, as well as one carry-on bag.

This company will drop you off at the Bangkok Bus Terminal – not the most centrally located spot. However, it’ll be easy to organize a taxi or tuk-tuk to your accommodation or the airport. Tickets cost around US$15 per person.

Khao San Tara Tour offers the same amenities as their competitor’s economy ticket, but they’ll drop you right on Khao San Road in the heart of Bangkok. These tickets are slightly more expensive, though, starting at US$24 per person.

Your final bus option is the tourist bus from Sukhothai to Bangkok. Tour With Thai operates this route at around US$20 per person, and the ride takes between 5.5-6 hours.

A tourist bus is a great option. It has similar amenities as the other buses, but it takes less time because they don’t make lengthy rest stops.

Flight

A direct Sukhothai to Bangkok flight operates several times a week and only takes an hour and a half. This is a great option if you are looking to spend more time exploring the temples and less time on the road.

Bangkok Airways operates the flight into Suvarnabhumi, and tickets usually cost less than US$100 per person. You can always set fare alerts for great price deals as well.

Train

First, you will need to take a local bus or taxi to Phitsanulok. This takes about an hour.

There are several other departures throughout the day that may work better with your schedule, ranging from a five-hour journey to a seven-and-a-half-hour ride. Make sure to check Thailand Railway for the most up-to-date information and schedule.

In terms of seats, tickets range from US$4 to US$45. A US$4 ticket will get you a third-class seat, which is essentially a hard seat on a bench.

You can also book second-class seats for around US$11 per person, which includes air conditioning.

First-class berths are the most expensive but include AC and allow you to lay down and get some rest. These tickets start at $35. Ideal if you choose the sleeper version. When you consider how far it is from Sukhothai to Bangkok, you may want to splurge on this luxury!

Private Transfer

Another way to get to Bangkok as seamlessly as possible is to hire a private transfer.

It’s the most expensive option unless you can split the cost with friends. However, the benefit is that you can set your own schedule and stop whenever you like. You’ll also have a bit more space to spread out and avoid sharing your ride with a stranger.

You have two options when it comes to private transfers: minivan or car. Minivans can seat up to nine passengers and cost about US$240 per vehicle.

Cars can typically hold three passengers, depending on how much luggage you have. A private car transfer costs between US$200 and US$220 each way, which can be split by all passengers.

At the end of the day, the best way to travel from Sukhothai to Bangkok depends on your travel style. But, once you arrive in Thailand’s chaotic capital, you’ll be ready for your next adventure!
