The 136 km (85 miles) distance from Phnom Penh to Kampot takes three to four hours to cover. You have multiple choices regarding how to travel this distance: Bus, minivan, or private car transfer.
With multiple departure times throughout the day, it is easy to travel to Kampot. Buses and minivans are a convenient and economical option, while private taxis offer flexibility in terms of timing.

What to see when traveling from Phnom Penh to Kampot?

A city infamous for its chaotic traffic, expect to run into traffic jams when you start your journey from Phnom Penh. But the good news is that it won’t be long before you leave this behind and come across relaxing countryside scenes. As you head further away from Phnom Penh, you will witness the calming green of rice fields and swaying coconut and palm trees. While the short journey is the perfect time to take a nap, it is also an excellent opportunity to witness life outside the city. Sit back and relax to the sight of locals heading out to their farms and going about their chores. Wave out to the children who are only happy to smile and wave back. Sublime views of the Bokor Mountains will welcome you once you get closer to Kampot. If you are traveling by private minivan or taxi, do stop at one of the many local fruit stalls for a bite of watermelon or local fruit. It’s the perfect way to interact and get to know the friendly locals.
The months immediately following the monsoons (November and December) are a great time to visit Kampot as the whole region is decked in shades of green. However, do note that road conditions tend to deteriorate during and immediately after the rainy season, so your journey may take a little longer than expected.

    Great Service
I would have given 5 stars but I think 4 and a half is fair for the overall journey. Like some of you reading this review I have travelled by mini vans here in cambodia, Thailand and Laos and they are all white knuckle rides! The drivers seem more interested in overtaking any kind of vehicle that's in front of them at extremely high speeds, just to gain a few feet.... AT ALL COSTS!!! What I mean by this mainly is they are playing Russian roulette with not only their own lives but with all the lives of the pasangers! The amount of times they have done this while on a road that has just 2 lanes (traffic going both ways) and I have witnessed some very close head on collisions. It is a very scary experience as the speeds most people drive at... This includes HGV's and big construction material carrying trucks! I would be amazed if anyone would survive a crash of this kind. So I booked giat Ibis after reading the reviews but also knowing that it would be a large bus/coach I would stand a better chance of survival! They are professional people who do the driving and they split the drive between 2 drivers and they also have a 3rd guy who talks on the mic informing the passengers about the journey and then hands out water and a cake. So 100% I would use again and also recommend that you use them if you value your lives. Happy travels!
