We booked our tickets several months ahead of our trip through Bookaway. com. It was effortless and we obtained the seats we wanted with the assurance that we could move from Kandy to Ella during the Sri Lankan new year when everyone is traveling. I received an E ticket through WhatsApp. I took my phone to the train station and Kandy, showed them the E ticket, and received the paper tickets. Super easy!

We bought second class and this was perfect ! Windows can be open and nearly the whole time you can see amazing green , teafarma , gardens , villages etc. People are selling snacks and tea and as we took the ride from Ella to Kandy , it was good. The seats are comfortabele . And yes , I'm more than happy , I did it .

Booked the 7 hour train ride from Kandy to Ella and was pleasantly surprised by how comfortable the train was. Got great seats at the front of the first class cabin right before the open doorway. The toilet onboard was usable and not overly filthy. Tickets are not typically confirmed immediately upon booking, however Bookaway customer service promptly contacted their partner in Sri Lanka who was able to confirm my booking via WhatsApp. Received a screenshot of my etickets on the morning of my train ride and was able to get on the train without any fuss. Of course prices are not as cheap as booking direct, but as we were unable to buy tickets for the day we wanted via the official site, this was a good alternative for us.

We booked the ticket from India and did not know the price of 1st class ticket and ended up booking 4 1st class ticket for 15,000 and the original price is 2000 per ticket. We found our the price when we reached the station. Usually every agencie will charge a small percent as commission not 100% cost of the ticket . This is fraud and cheating .
