About the ride from Santorini to Mykonos

Over the past few decades, Greece has become one of the most popular vacation destinations in Europe. With amazing spots like Mykonos and Santorini, you can explore the country’s beauty, as well as its party side.
When traveling the 118 kilometer (73 mile) distance between Santorini and Mykonos, you have three transportation options to choose from:

  • Taking a high-speed ferry that takes you to Mykonos in less than 2 hours
  • Hopping on a quick 35-minute flight
  • Flying to Santorini on a private helicopter ride

All of these options are a great choice, but it all comes down to your preferences and budget. Ferries are the most popular and cheapest ride option between the two islands, although sometimes they can get a bit crowded. It’s recommended to buy a ticket in advance, and show up at the port at least 30 minutes before the departure time.
For travelers who tend to get seasick when traveling on ferries, flying on a plane is a good choice. These flights are a bit more expensive than ferries, but they arrive at Santorini in around 35 minutes.
The third option, the helicopter ride, is the most expensive one. If you’re looking for a unique way to experience this journey, and your budget allows you that, consider booking a ride in advance.

What to see when traveling from Santorini to Mykonos

What you’ll be able to see outside of your window on your trip from Santorini to Mykonos depends on the type of transportation you chose. No matter which one it is, you’re in for a scenic ride.
If you choose a ferry ride, you’ll have the chance to enjoy the magnificent, never-ending views of the blue Aegean Sea. The ferry will take you on a journey right next to several Greek islands.
You’ll pass right between Paros and Naxos, as well as Ios and Sikinos. All of these islands are unique and beautiful, so have your camera ready to take some snapshots of them.
Travelers who are flying on a plane will have an aerial view of the sea, and the Cyclades islands. If you’re lucky enough to get a window seat, you’ll be able to enjoy the views of the islands and the sea from the air.
Finally, those who booked a helicopter ride are in for a bucket list kind of adventure! Helicopters fly a bit lower than the plane and have larger windows, so you’ll be able to see some of the hidden gems up close.
You’ll fly above several islands, and the pilot will try to get closer to some of the most beautiful spots on the route. That’s why these rides are so popular.
