About the ride from Koh Kood to Bangkok

For the 350km (217 mile) trip to Bangkok from Koh Kood (or as some people call it, Koh Kut), you need to take a combined bus and ferry journey, a transport option which is serviced by many different companies.

A combined bus and ferry ticket is a great way to quickly and simply get from Koh Kood to Bangkok without the need for organizing and planning multiple sections of your journey. It's especially helpful if you’re in a hurry to get to Thailand’s capital from what many consider to be its best and most peaceful island.

Traveling from Koh Kood to Bangkok is a great choice if you want to experience two very different sides to Thai life. While Koh Kood is a laid-back haven of snorkeling, swimming and waterfalls, Bangkok is one of the world’s busiest cities. Perhaps the most chaotic destination in the whole of Southeast Asia, Bangkok is a non-stop whirlwind of busy roads, tooting scooters, a huge population and lip-smacking street food.

If you need a change of pace after relaxing and recuperating on Koh Kood, Bangkok is a fantastic pick for your next adventure. Completely different to the island you’ve left behind, it’s equally charming and enticing.

By traveling directly from Koh Kood to Bangkok, you’ll be able to enjoy the complete contrast of these two different places without the need for stops en-route.

What to see when traveling from Koh Kood to Bangkok

Your journey to Bangkok from Koh Kood is made up of two separate sections: a boat trip from dreamy Koh Kood to the mainland port province of Trat, followed by a longer bus journey from Trat to Bangkok.

The first - and fastest - leg of your journey from Koh Kood to Bangkok is on a ferry from Koh Kood to the mainland point of Trat’s closest pier.

Your ferry journey from Koh Kood to Trat will last around one hour. For the entirety of your trip to Trat, you’ll glide by views of mainland Thailand to your right. This part of Thailand is very close to Cambodia’s border, which lies, at some points, only around 1km from Thailand’s shore.

On the other side of your boat, you’ll pass Ko Mak, Koh Chang and other tiny islands which call this part of the ocean their home. You’ll also see other small boats, as they make their way across the beautiful backdrop of Thailand's bright blue skies.

Upon arriving in Trat, you’ll be greeted by a pier only slightly more developed than the one you’ve left behind. It’s very likely that you’ll have already been here before you visited Koh Kood, so you might well be familiar with Trat’s delightful atmosphere.

You’ll then be guided to a bus, which will carry you all the way from Trat to Bangkok. This journey from Trat to Bangkok is very comfortable but relatively unspectacular. You’ll spend the vast majority of your trip on a well-made highway, passing distant mountains, roadside settlements and countless views of authentic Thai life.

As the roads become busier and the buildings become taller, you’ll know that you’re finally reaching the crazy chaos of unparalleled Bangkok.

One of the busiest cities on the planet, it bustles with life in a way that only Southeast Asia can offer. With millions of scooters, great nightlife, excellent temples and some of the world’s best street food, it’s an iconic city of endless adventure.
