Traveling with

Thai Railway

  • This is the way to go for long trips. Makes a 10 hour train ride feel very short when you can sleep through most of it.

  • Food and drinks provided by sellers on the train 24/7. Alcohol not allowed. Train can be fully booked as fares are low and backpackers go for it.

  • was nice

  • We booked through BookAWay. When we boarded the train, we realized that our booking had been split into two different cabins, so my partner and I couldn’t stay in the same room. Luckily, one passenger left later during the night, and we were able to move together into one cabin. Each passenger gets a small sink, one pillow, a blanket, a bedsheet, a bottle of water, and a piece of soap. There is also a non-air-conditioned dining car that serves simple Asian food. I recommend trying the rice with omelette. The ride itself was fine—the trains are still the same as they were ten or twenty years ago: a little bumpy and shaky. We arrived about an hour late at our destination. Nevertheless, the ride is a true classic. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime experience!

  • It was fine - comfortable seats, friendly people, no drama. Easy to use and will again.

  • I’ve done a fare share of traveling and exploring in my day. Usually I travel by plane. I live in Hua Hin now some I’m quite limited as to air travel. I normally hire a car when I travel to Bangkok . This time I gave the train a shot. Now,… it’s hardly first class , yet it’s quite comfortable and reasonably priced! I’ll definitely go again!!
