This is the way to go for long trips. Makes a 10 hour train ride feel very short when you can sleep through most of it.

Food and drinks provided by sellers on the train 24/7. Alcohol not allowed. Train can be fully booked as fares are low and backpackers go for it.

We booked through BookAWay. When we boarded the train, we realized that our booking had been split into two different cabins, so my partner and I couldn’t stay in the same room. Luckily, one passenger left later during the night, and we were able to move together into one cabin. Each passenger gets a small sink, one pillow, a blanket, a bedsheet, a bottle of water, and a piece of soap. There is also a non-air-conditioned dining car that serves simple Asian food. I recommend trying the rice with omelette. The ride itself was fine—the trains are still the same as they were ten or twenty years ago: a little bumpy and shaky. We arrived about an hour late at our destination. Nevertheless, the ride is a true classic. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime experience!

I’ve done a fare share of traveling and exploring in my day. Usually I travel by plane. I live in Hua Hin now some I’m quite limited as to air travel. I normally hire a car when I travel to Bangkok . This time I gave the train a shot. Now,… it’s hardly first class , yet it’s quite comfortable and reasonably priced! I’ll definitely go again!!
