How to get from Gili Trawangan to Denpasar Bali

There are a few options for transport from Gili Trawangan to Denpasar Bali. There is both a direct and an indirect ferry via Nusa Penida. In the end, whatever works for your travel budget and schedule is the right option.

Direct Ferry

There are three options for the direct ferry: Golden Queen Fast Boat, Gili Gateway and Blue Water Express.

Golden Queen Fast Boat offers one departure per day at 11:45 am. Their trip takes 3-hours and 45 minutes, and tickets start at $45 per person.

This high-speed ferry has AC, TVs, drinking water, and toilets on board. It’s the only boat that has indoor and outdoor seating. It’s a nice little luxury to choose between sitting inside in air conditioning or outside enjoying the salty air and beautiful views.

Golden Queen Fast Boat allows you to bring 25 kg of luggage on board and offers hotel drop-off options in Denpasar. If you book, contact the company ahead of time. They will arrange to have a minivan waiting for you once you disembark to take you to your hotel.

Gili Gateway is another company that offers a direct ferry from Gili Trawangan to Denpasar, Bali. This ferry also departs at 11:45 am but only takes three hours. Tickets with Gili Gateway start at $45 per person.

Gili Gateway ferries have a shared TV and provide water to each of their passengers. Unfortunately, AC and toilets may not be available on all boats. However, WiFI is provided… sometimes.

Gili Gateway also provides hotel dropoff in Denpasar.

With Gili Gateway, you can cancel your ticket up to seven days in advance or make changes for free up to 48 hours before you depart. It’s an excellent feature if you're a spontaneous traveler.

The final option for direct ferries is with Blue Water Express. This is the most expensive option, with tickets starting at $58 per person, but it also offers more amenities.

Blue Water Express has two departures times per day at 11:45am and 2:15 pm. At 2 hours and 45 minutes, it’s the shortest method to get from Gili Trawangan to Denpasar Bali.

The ferry has AC, toilets, and TVs on board. You can bring two bags weighing up to 25 kg each.

Additionally, you can change your ticket with Blue Water express up to seven days in advance for free.

If a direct ferry is an option that works before for you, select the one with the best price point and amenities that work with your budget.

Indirect Ferry via Nusa Penida

Another option is to take a ferry from Gili Trawangan to Nusa Penida and then a second ferry from Nusa Penida to Denpasar. There is one ferry that departs Gili Trawangan at 11:45am, and it takes two hours.

Once you have arrived in Nusa Penida, you will need to switch to another boat to complete your journey. The second ferry only takes 30 minutes, and several boats leave throughout the day.

This option doesn’t save you any time or money, so it’s not the best way to travel from Gili Trawangan to Denpasar, Bali.

Boat to Lombok + Flight

Your final option to get from Gili Trawangan to Denpasar, Bali, is to take a boat over to Lombok and then fly to Denpasar. The Gili islands are actually part of Lombok, and Gili Trawangan is less than 20 km from the Lombok mainland.

There are several boat options to get you from Gili T to Lombok.

A public ship departs at 7:30 am and 4 pm and costs less than $1.

A ferry travels between Gili T and Lombok several times per day, but they fill up quickly. In addition, the schedule often changes, so it would be best to check with the company and book early. These tickets are $0.66, and the ride is 45 minutes.

Unfortunately, the port and the airport are on opposite sides of Lombok, making this option a bit of a mission. So, once you reach Lombok, you’ll need to take a two-hour taxi to the airport.

However, non-stop flights between Lombok and Denpasar operate daily and only take 45 minutes. Internal flights in Indonesia can be extremely cheap (sometimes less than $20), so the long taxi ride may be worth it.

In the end, all of these routes from Gili Trawangan to Denpasar are relatively straightforward. As long as it works for your travel plans, you’ve made the right choice.
