Five things to do in Nairobi

Want to see incredible animals? Discover Kenya's rich history? Or are you in the market for some beautiful souvenirs?

Nairobi has you covered.

Here are some of the must-see attractions and activities:

  1. Visit the Nairobi Giraffe Center. It was established in 1979 to save endangered giraffes. Today, over 50 gentle giants roam the center's protected grounds freely.

  2. Take a hike. If you visit the Giraffe Center, make sure you hike the trails across the street. They are short (1.5km/0.9 miles) and give excellent views of the Ngong Hills and the Gogo River.

  3. Shop at the Maasai Market. Also known as the City Market, it's the main place to pick up gorgeous crafts and souvenirs. There are also plenty of food stalls, so visit at lunchtime for an authentic culinary experience.

  4. Learn it all at the National Museum of Kenya. Whether you want to travel back in time and discover the country's history or want to learn about the local animals, this museum is always a great idea.

  5. Visit the Westlands neighborhood. Nairobi has a few major neighborhoods, but if you want great food and drinks, check out Westlands. You'll find plenty of cocktail bars, rooftop terraces, and a few nightclubs here.
