What to see when traveling from Hue to Da Nang

The big attraction on this journey is the unparalleled Hai Van Pass. One of Vietnam’s most incredible sights, the Hai Van Pass is a 20-kilometer mountain pass which sits between Hue and Da Nang. At an elevation of 500 meters, it offers a phenomenal panorama of Vietnam’s deep-blue ocean along with crashing waves, verdant drops and golden shores.

If you want to travel over the pass on your journey from Hue to Da Nang, you should travel by private minivan, private car or train. By train, you don’t travel on the pass itself, but you get much the same views. 

If you choose to travel in a private vehicle, you can request your own route and your own photo stops, making this your best option if you really want to indulge in Hai Van’s views.

If you travel by road in a non-private vehicle, your ride is likely to use the more convenient tunnel route, instead of driving over the pass itself.

How to get from Hue to Da Nang

Taking a bus

Buses are a simple and affordable way to get from Hue to Da Nang. Some of these buses have sleeper-style seats, while others offer standard upright seats.

Some buses from Hue to Da Nang offer blankets AC, power sockets, and English-speaking staff. 

None of the buses from Hue to Da Nang have toilets onboard. Instead, they stop for short toilet breaks along the way.

Taking a car 

Taking a car from Hue to Da Nang is the best guarantee that you’ll get to fully enjoy all the views of the Hai Van Pass. If you take a car from Hue to Da Nang, you must hire the entire car instead of buying a single seat. Because of this, you can choose your own route and you can stop for photo opportunities whenever you like.

Though this offers lots of freedom and convenience, it is a more expensive option.

Taking a minivan 

If you decide to take a minivan from Hue to Da Nang, you can either purchase a single seat in a minivan or hire the entire vehicle. If you hire the full minivan, you can choose your own route and stop whenever you like, just like you can with a private car!

Taking a train

Taking a train to Da Nang from Hue is the best option for combining great views with low prices. The train from Hue to Da Nang doesn’t take you over the actual Hai Van Pass road, but it brings you very close, making the views equally good.
