Now you may be wondering, How do I get from Koh Kradan to Phuket? There are a few options for you to consider below. But before you decide how you’ll get there, check out some reasons to stick around Phuket and explore.

If you’re chasing eternal summer and wanting to maximize your time on the beach, Kata Noi is the perfect place to start. It has powder-soft sand, crystal clear aquamarine water and is the best place to relax and enjoy the sea.

If you’re looking for more nightlife and a bit of a party, head south to Patong Beach. This spot is infamous for wild bars, lots of parties, and a younger crowd.

Of course, no trip to Phuket would be complete without a visit to the Big Buddha. This statue is located at the top of Mount Nagakerd and offers some jaw-dropping panoramic views of Phuket. Depending on your sense of adventure and fitness level, you can hike up the hill or take a tuk-tuk.

There are plenty of other activities to keep you busy in Phuket. From boat tours to markets to watersports and waterfalls, you really can’t go wrong visiting this slice of heaven on earth.

About the ride from Koh Kradan to Phuket

Phuket is located west across the Andaman Sea from Koh Kradan.

Because the latter does not have an airport, you will need to take a ferry to travel between the two islands.

Luckily, ferries in Thailand are a prevalent form of transportation. Companies have done their best to make the process as easy as possible.

If you travel during peak tourist season, December to March, you can expect smooth sailing and a fairly pleasant journey.

However, just like many things in Southeast Asia, ferry rides can be unpredictable, and inclement weather occasionally happens. If this is the case, you may experience some bumpy seas. When the sea is too rough, ferries will be canceled. Not to worry, though! You’ll be rebooked on the next ferry off Koh Kradan or receive a full refund. This is also more common during shoulder season, which falls during April-May or November.

If you’re prone to seasickness, it’s always a good idea to pack some medicine. Better safe than sorry!

You should also note that the low season typically sees smaller islands shut down. So while it may be tempting to travel during this time, you could also struggle to get a ferry from Koh Kradan to Phuket.

How to get from Koh Kradan to Phuket

There are really only two options when figuring out transport from Koh Kradan to Phuket.

You can take the ferry, which is both the fastest and cheapest option. Or you can buy a ferry + bus combination ticket. This is a good choice if you can’t stomach traveling by boat for several hours.

Ferry

The ferry is probably the best way to travel from Koh Kradan to Phuket.

You’ll be picked up at Koh Kradan beach resort on the island’s east coast and have a direct ride to Rassada Pier in Phuket. It’s a central location to arrive, so it’s effortless to grab a tuk-tuk or organize a transfer to your accommodation from there.

Two companies offer speedboat ferry rides: Bundhaya and Satun Pakbara. Both have a decent luggage allowance of at least 20 kgs and a carry-on bag. Their boats also have bathrooms, which may be essential during the long trip!

Bundhaya is great because it can cover the distance from Koh Kradan to Phuket in about three and a half hours.

Tickets start at US$54 per person, and you’ll be guaranteed a seat.

Pro Tip – sit towards the front of the boat. If you sit in the last row, the breeze will feel amazing, but you’ll most likely get soaked!

Note that if you decide to book with Bundhaya, you cannot cancel or change your ticket, so make sure your travel dates are set before you hit purchase!

Satun Pakbara is another great option to get from Koh Kradan to Phuket. Trips take about three hours and 45 minutes, but their boats have AC – a luxury you might not want to give up during the summer.

Tickets on these boats start at US$66 per person and can be canceled or changed for free at least seven days before departure.

Satun Pakbara speed boats also have an area in the front of the ship where you can stand and enjoy the view, which is a nice addition.

Ferry + Bus

If extended trips at sea aren’t for you (or your stomach), go for the ferry + bus combo ticket to get you from Koh Kradan to Phuket.

This is essentially like booking a private transfer (not really a bus), and the price tag reflects it!

King Travel offers the option to take a longtail boat from Koh Kradan to the pier in Trang. This only takes an hour and is a much smaller boat.

From Trang, you will take a 4.5-hour drive the rest of the way to Phuket. If you are traveling with a smaller group, you can book a car for about US$180. Larger groups of up to nine passengers can book a minivan for US$197.

The benefit of taking land transportation is the flexibility of telling your driver when and where to stop if you need a break. The roads are well maintained, too, so the drive itself shouldn’t be too bad. Plus, having hotel pickup included and not being tied to the ferry schedule is a great incentive.

Cars and minivans are both equipped with AC, and you can split the cost of the vehicle with everyone traveling with you.

A possible downside of the private transfer is that you’ll be dropped off at Phuket International Airport. Perfect if you are jetting off, but not so fab if you’re staying in Phuket. That means you’ll need to take a taxi or the bus to your accommodation once you arrive, adding an additional cost and more time to your journey.

So, this may not be the best way to get from Koh Kradan to Phuket unless ferries are your worst nightmare.

Island hopping and exploring the world’s best beaches are great ways to spend your time in Thailand. But, no matter how you choose to get to Phuket, you’re setting yourself up for one amazing holiday!
