How to Travel From Korcula to Split in Croatia

After a few days spent visiting the collection of hidden beaches, sipping on local wine and wandering through the stunning old city of Korcula, it’s time to make your way to Split — home to a UNESCO World Heritage Site and some of the country’s most breathtaking landscapes.

During the 2.5-3.5 hour bus or ferry journey from Korcula to Split, the time will fly by as you start to plan how you will spend your upcoming days in a new city.

What you’ll quickly discover is the beauty of Split. Not only is it the second largest city in Croatia, but its incredible scenery is hard not to notice. From the dramatic mountain backdrop to the twinkling Adriatic sea — it’s a place that solo travelers, couples, and families will fall in love with.

What should you do in Split?

Depending on how many days you will be spending there, you’ll have the chance to enjoy everything from island hopping tours to historic sites.

Below are some of the best things to do in Split:

  • Head to the beach: If you are visiting during the summer, of course, you will want to enjoy the sandy beaches. At Bačvice, the closest beach to the city, you’ll find sparkling, shallow water too inviting not to dip in.

  • Visit the Diocletian Palace: Check out this UNESCO Heritage Site dating back to the fourth century. Not only is this an important landmark, but you will be amazed by the impressive structure.

  • Stroll along the Riva (promenade in Split): Split’s seaside promenade is a beautiful and relaxing spot with great restaurants and cafes. If you have time, walk just after sunset when the sea-facing walls of Diocletian’s Palace are glowing in a rosy-gold light.

  • Take in the views from St. Domnius Cathedral Complex: This 57-meter high Gothic and Romanesque bell tower is the place to come for 360-degree views over Split. Make sure you’ve eaten an energizing meal beforehand. You’ll need to climb at least 200 steps to reach the top.

  • Go island hopping: Keen to spend a day on a boat? Make Split your base and book a boat trip. You can visit some spectacular locations nearby, including the Blue Lagoon and Hvar. Be sure to pack your swimmers so you can take a dip in the Adriatic Sea.

How to travel from Korcula to Split

Option one: Ferry

If you are looking for the quickest way to travel from Korcula to Split, then the Catamaran Ferry is your best option. There are two types of ferries to choose from, a catamaran ferry or a high-speed ferry.

Catamaran Ferry

Operated by Krilo (Kapetan Luka), the expected travel time is two hours and 30 minutes.

The catamarans seat between 300 and 445 people, depending on which one is used on the day.

Seeing they are large vessels, you’ll easily be able to store your luggage on board. You’re technically allowed 20 kg per person, but passengers usually don’t have problems bringing a bit extra.

Sit back and take in the ocean views as you relax in the air-conditioned catamaran. You can also buy some snacks and drinks on board, but feel free to bring your own.

To buy tickets, do it online or in Korčula before your departure — the office known as Korkyra Info is at Trg Petra Šegedina 3a.

On the day of departure, print your ticket or have a copy showing the QR code on your phone.

High-Speed Ferry

Two companies operate high-speed ferries between Korčula and Split: TP Line and Jadrolinija

Jadrolinija takes three hours and 40 minutes. TP Line is slightly shorter, taking two hours and 50 minutes.

On both options, you will have access to toilets as well as free Wi-Fi. It’s also possible to buy drinks and snacks.

In terms of luggage, it is possible to bring 20 kg. You can not purchase additional weight, but if there is room onboard, the crew will allow a bit extra.

For both ferry companies, you can either print out your ticket or show your e-ticket when boarding.

Option Two: Bus

If you don’t travel well on a sea vessel, then don’t stress. You have the option of taking a bus between Korcula and Split.

Operated by Autotrans By Arriva, this comfortable bus will take you three hours and 30 minutes.

There is one departure per day, which leaves from Korčula Bus Station at 9.30 p.m. and arrives at Split Central Bus Station at 1 a.m. the following morning.

On board, you will have an air-conditioned cabin with Wi-Fi and chargers. There is also a bathroom.

What about your luggage?

It’s possible to bring two pieces on board with a maximum weight of 25 kg.

About the ride from Split to Korčula

If you end up traveling by ferry, you’ll be able to enjoy the views of Korcula’s historic Old Town as you sail away from the island. En route, you will pass by other islands in the Dalmatian archipelago, like Hvar or Brač.

While you may wish to read a book, take a nap, or listen to music, be sure to take in the gorgeous turquoise waters of the Adriatic Sea.

You’ll know when you’re close to Split when you spot the bustling port city in the distance.

If you’re going by bus, your views will be of lush greenery and vineyards, typical of the Dalmatian coast. You’ll also pass through quaint coastal towns and villages offering a glimpse into local life.

When is the best time to visit Split?
